“PCs are not afraid of a minigun, nor a tank, nor a dragon.
They are afraid of confident unarmoured sword-wielders, pistols to the face and subdual damage.”

“When approaching a game, consider things in this order of importance:

  1. People: Who are you playing with. What are their tastes? Do they gel as a group? Do you even like them?
  2. Story: What kind of stories do you hope to tell? What’s the genre? Will it be scripted or totally open? Are there specific things you want to include or will you react solely to the players desire?
  3. System: Which game will best allow you to engage 1) and express 2)?

The only reason I offer this up is that many instances of gaming dysfunction I’ve seen have occured when the GM follows the list in reverse order. People, then story, then system. It’s really that simple.”
