When looking to update my site out of a ancient hombrew framework to Wordpress I had to admit that my last Ego page was woefully out of date. We’re talking at least 5 years. It was so far out of date I couldn’t just copy it and make some selective edits. I had to throw the thing away.
So finding myself egoless and in need of rebuilding my ego from the ground up, I’m not sure what could conceivably be of interest or relevant to this web presence. You could infer anything I might say here from the subjects I choose to have pages about.
But if you are lazy and these pages (or I) haven’t changed too much, if you would have read them, you could probably infer a few overly broad labels.
- Programmer: I’ve been a computer guy for 13 years, I’ve spent most of them as a programmer of one flavor or another. Most of my work has been in ASP before it was .Net and, once I escaped Microsoft in 2000, python. During my storied career I’ve done work for CSC, Motley Fool and Matrix Group.
- Gamer: As a hobby I enjoy role playing games. For the uninitiated, you know like Dungeons and Dragons. For the record I consider D&D to be a bad example, particularly as it holds the role of entry level game. It is far too complicated and “war gamey” to serve that function well. I run an infrequent homebrew game and play in a weekly (different) homebrew game.
- Beer Snob: Since I brought up the word homebrew (like 8 times), I’ll mention that I am a beer snob. I enjoy and good IPA, stout or hefewiezen. Pale ales in general are just “ehh” and Budweiser and its ilk aren’t even beer.
- MythTV and Netflix: Objectively I’m a consumer of media. I say this because when people bring up movies, more often than not, I’ve seen it. I keep on top of my media watching with a MythTV (opensource Tivo) attached to a projector (106″ screen, :)) and my Netflix subscription.
- Cultural Myths: I’m not sure what to say about this except to say I find cultural myths interesting. This includes both ancient (god’s and heroes) and modern (urban myths and politics) examples.
