Gaming

So Many DiceI’ve been gaming for 18 years, in that time I’ve played a number of systems and have differing thoughts on them. I even have differing thoughts on them now compared to when I first or even last played them. In general the longer I’ve gamed the more I’ve tended towards simpler systems.

Nephilim’s Song

Most of my gaming energy goes into Nephilim’s Song. The setting is placed 13,000 years in the future after society has risen and fallen a few times and stands at the cusp of either rising or falling, perhaps for the last time. Advanced plague weapons has destroyed all metal forcing society to embrace advanced bio-technology and make deals with the nephilim, spirits of emotion, energy, life, space and matter.

The system uses a homebrew system that evolved from Fuzion. At this point it is loosely based on the Feng Shui system with some drift from Spirit of the Century.

Symbiote War

This is the (distant) precursor to Nephilim Song. It takes place in the same world but takes place in 1999 instead of 15,000. It is the world where the Nephilim and the familiars are first beginning to appear. Two secret cabals that have existed since the dawn of time engage in a secret war to control history.

This was written much earlier and uses a fairly pure version of Fuzion.

Other Stuff

Over the years I have written a number of gaming related texts for a number systems. I’m not sure I have any great attachment or pride in the work anymore but they are here, so might as well share them.

Items that aren’t even on my list to integrate into the new layout:

  • Fuzion Instant Power System - A logically complete power system for Fuzion. Through many iterations it turned into the system that is currently in Nephilim’s Song. FIPS is left over mostly as a archaeological remnant.
  • Aftermath of a Light Rain - A Mekton campaign. Your basic alien invasion by an alien race with advanced technology. The aliens had a rigid caste system and success was dependent on causing rebellion within the aliens by installing a human psychic into their hive mind.
  • Exodus - A campaign that starts from the cyberpunk timeline and veers into ecological and military apocalypse. This campaign was never run but it’s thinking seems influential into certain elements of the Nephilim’s Song setting.
