Equipment
Put together a reasonable equipment list based on who you are professionally, socially and personality wiseand be prepared to justify it.
The first question concerning equipment has to be how does the economy and particularly financial transactionswork. If you have a bank that you keep more than a couple hundred dollars in for any length of time they will issueyou a credeb. A Credeb is a combination credit/debit card. The mode is switch selectable. Transactions are authorizedby thumb print and can be made card to card with the help of a properly equipped Pcomp. Cash is still used butthere are very few places that won’t accept credeb cards. Cash transaction over $100 are curious and likely toraise suspicion or at least memory.

Armor
See Atomic War (http://www.meta-earth.com/fuzion/atomik.html).The EV(pen) of armor should be doubled from the listed value.
Computers
See Atomic War (http://www.meta-earth.com/fuzion/atomik.html).
Computer equipment is rated by a hardware stat. This rates raw processing power. In place of skills a computercan have software. Software is limited to twice the hardware rating of the computer. Software is also limited toless then seven due to a lack of domain experts to push it beyond. Software prices double with each level increase. If a computer is being used to assist a human it confers a bonus equal to half the applicable software rating aslong as that bonus does not cause the user to have an effective skill greater than the rating of the software.
Joe the weefle hacker has a laptop with a stat of two and a hacking program of 4. To allow the LPP to do the hacking would grant an AV of 6. Joe is a bright guy with an Int of 5 but only a skill of 2. Using the hacking program Joe gets a +2 bonus bringing his AV up to 9. Later on Joe has become an elite hacker with a skill of 4. Using the same hacking program at this point still only gives an AV of 9 because the hacking 4 program can not boost a skill to above 4.
Most computer resources with storage capacity have built in hubless wireless networking for communication anddata synchrinization. This allows most computers to effectively operate as a remote control.
Systems
- Pcomp - Pcomps are the standard hand held computing and communication devices. A standard model is a quad processor with 1Gb RAM, 100Gb storage space. A Pcomp has a hardware rating of 1. A Pcomp generally has space for a management module (OS, below), two firmware slots (below), 2 add-on slots and an optical disk reader. It is about the size of a 1999 cellphone, it has a pull out screen and is voice activated. It combines the functions of a video phone, PDA, Internet access, fax, etc. A Pcomp will run from about 4 hours of constant use or about 48 hours in standby mode. This base version runs from about $300. An unlimited service contract runs about $20/month, but is assumed unless the character has negative wealth.
- Laptop - A Laptop is usually about 10″ x 12″ and has a high definition display. It has a hardware rating of 2 (2Gb RAM, 200Gb storage). It can do everything a pcomp can but better. It has 5 firmware slots and 5 add-on slots. A laptop runs about a kg and costs about $1400.
- Personal Computer - A midsize tower that resides in most houses. It comes with 17″ - 20″ flat LCD display. It has a hardware rating of 3 (3Gb RAM, 300Gb storage). It can do everything a laptop can but better. It has 10 firmware slots and 10 add-on slots. A PC runs about $1000.
- Workstation - It looks like a PC but has a much bigger engine inside. It has a hardware rating of 4 (4Gb RAM, 400Gb storage). It can do everything a PC can but better. It has 15 firmware slots and 15 add-on slots. A Workstation costs about $4000 and can’t be moved assembled.
- Server - It’s a big old machine humming noisily in the corner serving potentially thousand of people. It’s rarely a personal machine and normally relies on a different OS. It has a hardware rating of 5 (5Gb RAM, 500Gb storage). It can do everything a workstation can but better. It has 20 firmware slots and 20 add-on slots. A Server costs about $10,000 and can’t be moved assembled.
Hardware Add-ons
These are the equivilent of add-on cards. They generally look like PCMCIA cards about 2″ to a side. Mostpcomps can handle 2 of these. Laptops can take 5, PCs about 10, workstations about 15 and servers about 20. Somepcomps can take as many as 4 add ons, they are larger and generally cost about $100 more than the base model.
- GPS - See Atomic War (http://www.meta-earth.com/fuzion/atomik.html). $200.
- Additional I/O Ports - Adds an additional interface port to connect the computer to any external source. Most computers come with 3. Pcomps come with 2. These cost about $30.
- Additional Firmware Slot - Add an additional firmware program $50.
- Spectrum Analyzer - required for bug detection, wireless communication intercept, radar detection and other EM spectrum detection. Specific spectrum $150, full spectrum $1000.
- Encryption (includes thumbprint) - Provides access to the strong PKI system. Costs $30 for level 1 and doubles at each higher level.
- Satellite - Allows the computer to connect to the satalite network instead of the terrestrial wireless. This is useful for operating outside of civilized areas. $350.
- Credeb Transfer (includes credeb slot and thumbprint) - Allows financial transactions using the credeb. $150.
Operating System
- Dumb - This is equivalent to any modern ca. 1999 operating system. Normally it voice controlled and is capable of prolonged activity but it isn’t capable making jumps of logic of anticipating needed based on previous behaviour. A dumb OS is usually free.
- LPP 5s - This is the control module based on 2009 AI theory. The LSS 5s was released in 2009 and so is somewhat out of date but it’s capabilities far surpass a dumb systems. Generally the LPP is based off of the Virtual Secretary but certain dedicated systems may use other personality templates. The VS version can answer and screen calls and mail, make appointments, do simple research, take dictation with enough awareness to know when speaker has started speaking to someone else, etc. A LPP 5s is available in many personality templates and starts with a skill of 1. After two months skill goes up by one. After nine months the effective hardware rating of the machine goes up by one. A VS 5s runs about $100, research, accounting or other modules run about $25 each. LPPs generally come in control module chips that can be moved from machine to machine. For three times the cost of LPP and modules a distributed LPP can be bought to have an instance of the LPP running on multiple computer smultaneously. The personality algorthyms are syched during data synch procedures. A non-s version can be bought for double cost. This has to be run on at least a desktop and confers double skill bonuses (2 base skill and +2 afer 2 months). Virtual Intelligence holds a 52% market share, versions are made by Gensym, Red Hat, and Microsoft.
- LPP 6s - It operates the same as the LPP 5s except that the it is capable of more complex research and it begins with a 2 skill. After 30 days and 90 days of use the skill raises by one (hardware permitting). After six months of use the effective hardware raises by one. A VS 6s runs $150, modules cost about $50.
Firmware Modules
These are your basic programs, the price for each level is twice the previous level. A level 1 bug detectorcosts $75, a level 2 $150, a level 3 $300, etc. Drivers provide access to various machines whith necissary knowledgeto support interfacing to that machine. Programs provide knowledge areas and logical systems to support the useof that knowledge. Systems cannot take advantage of programs or drivers greater than twice the hardware ratingof the system.

See Atomic War (http://www.meta-earth.com/fuzion/atomik.html).
Bugs - Bugs come in hundreds of different varieties, but they can be reduced to a few variables: size, medium, storage, transmission, 2 part, and destruct. Let me begin at the end and move to the beginning. Destructis whether the system has a built in self destruct sequence. If so it normally is activated by coded signal. Thoughwith advanced 2 part bugs it might be able to make the determination that it has been compromised and activatethe destruct by itself. 2 part indicates there is a central recording/transmission station that receives data fromany number of bugs. The sensor part is normally connected to the recorder by some sort of cable. 2 part sensorsare usually much smaller than their one part equivalents. Transmission asks the question of how data is relayedto the outside world. bugs are capable of none, burst or real time communications. Advanced bugs can shift betweenmodes by coded signal, while simple bugs may not even have a transmitter. Storage answers the question of how muchdata can be stored. Medium is whether the bug is audio only or audio and visual. The final question is how bigthe final bug, or its two parts are. Obviously with that kind of variety the price is going to be equally spread.Generally a bug can cost anywhere from $100 to $4,000.

Magnetic locksare those based on some sort of keycard system they start at $100. Laser locks use a coded laser or IR signal toopen the lock. These systems start at $150. Keypad locks are electronic combination locks. They start at $200.All of the above prices are starting prices more expensive and secure version be purchased.
Scanlock - Good security is based on something the person knows, something the person has and a biometric,or something their person is. Scanlocks attempt to quantify the something the person is part of the problem. Theirare six main varieties with differing levels of security and prices: thumblock, palm lock, voicelock, retinal lock, face or head lock, and genetic lock. Thumblock is keyed off of the thumbprint, they are extremely common in 2016and can be gotten for $100. Palm lock is the same thing but uses the whole hand and goes for $200. Voice locksare based on the voiceprint of the user, it costs $300. Retinal lock is based on the retina of the user, it costs$500. Face or head lock is based off the skeletal structure of the user. The lock either x-rays or takes a sonographof the users head to determine if they are who they say they are. These devices cost $1000. The best lock currentlyin production is the genetic lock which does a genetic sequence to determine in the person is who they say theyare. It can take up to 10 minutes to open one of these doors. A genetic lock costs $2000. Any of these locks canhave live sensor added to make sure they are checking a live person for an added 25%. More precise and secure versionscan be had for more money.

It either has it’s own dedicated computer or a radio communication device to interfacewith a computer. The sensor runs $2000, $2200 with computer. It allows the detection of a large vehicle almosta mile away, a human sized target can be detected at 700m. Someone with geology skill can detect an earthquakeup to a minute before it strikes, and can also use the device to map out underground caverns. Telling the differencebetween and deer and human is almost impossible making the device less useful in area with a lot of natural life.Determining exact locations is much easier with two sensors 10m apart working in tandem.
