Translated: “Leach Child” (Hiruko)
One of the seven kami of luck. His domain is of good honest labor. He is the patron of fisherman and tradesman. He is depicted with a fishing rod, and a tai (sea bream). He is also associated with Jellyfish.
Ebisu was born as Hiruko, he was the first child of Izanagi and Izanami before they were properly married. Hiruko was born without a skeleton and possible arms or legs. They put him and his brother Awashima out to sea. Hiruko washed up on an island and survived and when he turned three he grew bones, arms and legs.
