Son of Ninigi and Ko-no-hana, brother to Hoderi. Father of Jimmu Tenno(the first Emperor). The exact Japanese names of FireFade and FireFlash are inconsistent so the English translation is used.

FireFade was the younger or the two brothers and an excellent hunter. FireFlash was a great fisher, as a contest the two brothers decided to trade sports to see which was better at the others sport. FireFade not only failed to catch any fish but also lost FireFlash’s hook. FireFade broke his hunting sword and melted it down and made many hooks to replace the lost one. FireFlash was not placated. Even after FireFade melted the rest of his sword to make hooks FireFlash still insisted that he wanted his hook back.

On the advice of the Old Man of the Sea FireFade sailed in a small boat into the sea where he met, fell in love with and eventually married the daughter of the Sea King. The missing hook was found in the throat of a tai (or sea bream). Home sickness and sense of duty to return the hook eventually drew FireFade and his now pregnant wife home. His wife gave him the Tide Ebbing Jewel and the Tide Flowing Jewel.

Once they were home his wife asked him to build her a shelter in which she could give birth. He built this shelter and when her labor began and she entered this hut and told FireFade not to watch. Needless to say FireFade did watch. What he saw was his wife,in dragon form, giving birth, he fled. When he returned his wife had returned to the sea but left behind a baby boy, Jimmu Tenno. FireFade’s wife sent her sister to take care of the boy and Jimmu Tenno eventually married this aunt.
