Amaterasu’s grandson, Ko-no-hana’s husband, and father to Hoori and Hoderi grandfather to Jimmu Tenno, the first emperor.

Was sent to Japan with the sword, mirror, and jewel of the imperial regalia. His Attendants who accompanied him from the Celestial Plains became Shinto priests. He fell in love with Ko-no-hana and her father, Oho-yama gave him the choice of either marrying his elder daughter, Ihu-naga, or the younger daughter, Ko-no-hana. Ihu-naga prophesied that if Ninigi married her his offspring would live long lives but if he chose Ko-no-hana they would die young. Ninigi chose Ko-no-hana and the early imperial line was in fact plagued with young deaths.

Ninigi first arrived in Japan in Kyushu and area known as Himukai. Ninigi and his attendants migrated Eastward to the area in Hunsshu known as Yamato, this was not reached until the time of Jimmu Tenno. The descendants of Amaterasu and Ninigi were once defeated by the local inhabitants while they fought facing the sun. Afterwards they always fought with the sun at their backs and always won.
