Suku-na-biko
January 11th, 2008
Translates to ‘Small Renown Man’ Of great help to Oh-kuni-nushi. Son of the Divine producing Goddess.
He arrived on the Izumo coast on a raft wearing moth wings and tiny feathers. Suku-na-biko was skilled in the medical arts. He and Oh-kuni-nushi became inseparable wandering the province curing disease and aiding with crops. Suku-na-biko “died” when climbing up a ripe millet plant, his weight coupled with the ears of grain bent the plant, then flung him up to heaven.
To this day it is said that this little kami occasionally appears and leads people to hot springs. This is characteristic of his kindly nature.
